While it’s true Google does track your ad usage, they also give you the option to change which ads you’d like to see.
Skip ads altogether and download
Adblock UBlock Origin the extension for Chrome. It lets you skip YouTube ads and a lot of the ads on websites. However, it also takes away revenue from some of your favorite sites. So consider adding those sites to the allow list if you treasure their existence. Your Google searches still get sold to various companies, but at least you don’t get creepy harassing side photos with your name slapped across them while surfing Facebook.
Write it off as paranoia, but don’t say I didn’t warn you when you start getting baby products in the mail because you Googled “16 and pregnant”.
